Reminisce

Remember back when we knew tomorrow was just around the corner
And we'd surely see it?
Those days seem so far away
Waking up to a new day has become a major achievement among us
And so many of our kind are no longer here
Used to ride rockets off into sunsets
And cool our jets in the fountains of the promises of youth
Time passed
Wonder was forgotten
Magic a mere memory
And youth is yesterday
Have we gotten so far ahead of ourselves?
Have we gotten so grown that we can't even laugh at ourselves
Today we are hollowed out shells of the super heroes we promised to be
We stopped reaching for stars because we got too focused on how far away they are
They told us not to look back
That yesterday is to be forgotten
But how can we move forward if we don't look back
Reminisce for a moment with me
Back to days where screams meant joy
Our only fear was street lights
Otherwise we were fearless
Insecurity was unfamiliar
And we'd grow up one day to rule the world
We raced the sun to see who would shine the brightest
We were unstoppable
Time was our essence
And we were blessed and stress-free
You were glad to be you
And I was courageous enough to be me
And they tell us to leave the past behind
But if the past was a blast the bring it with you
Carry it on shoulders like sunburn from days we kicked it in parts after darkness fell
They say its unhealthy
But I say let's reminisce
Because it has become way too serious
We forgot way back when a kiss was simply a kiss
And we danced just because we could
So while everyone is telling you to forget about the past
I'm telling you to reminisce
