I happen to be someone that isn't completely sure about everything about myself. I have some insecurities. One of them is my smile. As a kid I started buying my fingernails while I still had my baby teeth. When my adult teeth started to grow, I continued with my nasty little habit. This caused my teeth to be rather crooked. My family didnt have a whole lot of money so braces weren't an option. Over the years I have mastered smiling with my lips together in order to hide the damage. Lately on my journey toward becoming a better woman I have learned to stop hiding. So here is my biggest, goofy, toothy grin. Enjoy it as much as I enjoyed smiling. :-)

Today is love day. As complicated and confusing as love is, be grateful it exists. It is a rich feeling KNOWING that someone loves you and to be able to give love freely. Romantic love is not the only kinda that matters. The most fulfilling love is unconditional. Can you think of someone you love unconditionally? Give them a call, text, or email and tell em you love em.... Love freely ya'll! Peace!

In the spirit of black history month I'd like to say "Big Up" to my people. Alot of times in the media it is made to look like we are so limited to being and doing certain things. I am here to tell you that we are so dope that we can do anything. We are artist, activists, athletes, trendsetters, inventors, writers, teachers, doctors, lawyers, journalists, archaeologists, astronauts, models, parents, nobel peace prize winners, movers, shakers, ground breakers and more. We have made our own way in this works and because I come from a long line of proud, creative, hardworking black people, I am proud to be a black woman! ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Glad to be participating in this campaign against the anti-obesity ads against young children.

Alot of time in relationships (friends, family, lovers, etc.) we find ourselves at a point where we feel like we are fighting to love one another. You'll say "left" while the other is screaming "right" and at some point someone has to wave the white flag if the relationship is to be saved. In my case, I'm usually the one with the flag. I take my relationships very seriously with people because I don't have a huge group of people in my life. Lately, it has come to a point where I have to toss the flag aside and stand my ground. This is new and difficult for me but it's something I have to learn to do. I love my peeps very much and will do anything for all of them. But when it comes down to people purposely trying to tear you down, you have to re-think how important the relationship is and if they really deserve to be apart of your life. I'm not a doormat. You don't get to disrespect me and still reap the benefits of having me around. I deserve better and people should know better.

Independently Romantic

As we all know, Valentines day is right up the block. Some of us don't really give to shakes of a monkey's nuts about that but I was thinking: Vday is supposed to alllll about love and who said it had to be about "couple" love. I CERTAINLY love myself so Valentines day seems like a great opportunity to demonstrate that. If you are in the single boat (as I have been EVERY valentines day since birth), try romancing yourself. Take yourself to your favorite restaurant, maybe a lil shopping. At least if you go on a date by yourself sex is optional. Just make sure you show yourself some love and don't be down about being single. I haven't had a boyfriend/relationship in 6 years and I don't have any problem with that. I have learned my worth and refuse to settle. I romance myself regularly. It keeps me in the practice of only accepting the best when it comes to dating other people. If you can't love yourself, how you gonna love somebody else? Hows someone gonna love you if you don't love you?

I have grown to love high heels in my old age. But you know lil miss gully is an artist too. I'm loving all these fancy, artsy lifts here!

We are beautiful in all our unique, individual glory. There are so many commercials, articles, videos, songs, and other outlets designed to encourage us to be unhappy with our outward appearance. These same things can damage us inside. I am here to tell you, FUCK THAT. Yes, we can exercise. Yes, we can wear makeup and hair weaves. But it is much more important to take a look in the mirror and see that what we're looking for is already there. Enhancing your beauty is wonderful but never feed into the belief that you aren't already enough or that you need to be like anyone else to prove to be something you already are..... A gorgeous manifestation of individual, unique beauty.

Full Circle

I was looking over some of my old posts and I must be clear.... Alot of the things I choose to post about are from conversations with people about things they're going through as well as some experiences I've had in the past.
